2017/2018 Thailand Mission Trip

First Pres sent a team of ten to northern Thailand, December 29, 2017 through January 14, 2018. The team built a home for a family with two daughters in Lampang with Fuller Center for Housing. We also visited our mission partners in Chiang Mai - New Life Center Foundation and IJM, and we delivered supplies to Free Burma Rangers. The hosts at New Life Center brought us to a Lahu hill tribe village where some graduates of the program now live. At IJM, we learned about their Citizenship Rights and Child Sexual Abuse programs for the stateless people of the northern hill tribe region. We visited four churches, including the Thai Lampang Christian Church, where we worshipped and our own Michelle Vecchio-Lyzenga, Director for Community Life, preached. Before arriving in Lampang, we toured the Golden Triangle, walked across a bridge into Burma, took a boat ride on the Mekong River, and visited Laos.

Since 2001, First Pres has sent more than 125 people to Thailand and built more than 20 homes. We have developed close relationships with the Lampang churches and their pastors. In 2018 we continued to grow relationships with our friends and see God at work in their lives. Please pray for Fuller Center for Housing, our mission partners, Thai friends, and the churches. On February 26, 2018, the team conducted a debrief presentation to the congregation, including personal reflections, a video and photos.

Project Mercy 2017 Mission Trip.

Since 2012, First Pres has been one of the sending churches in a multi church mission trip to our mission partner, Project Mercy, in Ethiopia. The October 2017 team of 23 was comprised of a medical team (Surgical, OB/GYN, Primary Care/Pediatrics and Support Staff) and an educational team (Health Education and Mentoring). God organized an amazing team, 9 of whom were from or related to First Pres. As of March 2018, please pray for the political stability of Ethiopia as it is in a state of emergency due to the unforeseen resignation of the Prime Minister. In light of safety concerns, pray for discernment regarding the formation of a team for this Fall. Finally, Marta and Deme who are the Project Mercy founders are having health issues—we are thankful for their lives and examples. Pray for them in this chapter as they are winding down.
